Back in May, I had a large 1 inch piece of murrini slumped into a cabochon. I had traded with a fellow retreat attendee at the Missouri Bead Retreat. The cab size slumped to 1-1/4 inches so instead of ring, I decided to set it in a necklace. :)

A big shout to everyone who stopped by at Strange Folk this past weekend! I've always had fun at this show and it was great to see old and new friends. And thankfully, the rain held out!

Most of my inventory will be going to shops around the area, including Fusion, I Am What I Am and E.L Riley. A lot of it will be at Fusion though, so stop on by!

Another Art Outside is in the books! I'm completely exhausted, yet somehow managed to grab some pad thai from my favorite place and eat dinner. But trust me, I promptly collapsed after that. Schlafly has always put together a well organized, fantastic event and Art Outside did not disappoint.

I want to send a big shout out to my friends Becky and Karla for helping me throughout the weekend. They helped me keep my sanity. :) In a day or two I'll share some pictures from the event, but in the meantime, I'm in a no-jewelry-mode for the next few days.

Congrats to Candy Kroupa for guessing the closest... she guessed 650 and I actually used 632 coffee filers. :) The base is 8" wide and the finished size is about 12". It also took me about 10 hours to complete. (Not straight because I would go a little insane)

Paper Lantern + a Contest

With Art Outside just a little over 6 weeks away, I've been working hard to improve the over all look of my booth. I started to make a lantern to hang up in my booth... a 8" inch paper lantern covered in coffee filters. What's funny, I used less hot glue sticks then I thought (only 5) but used way more coffee filters.

The question is... how many coffee filters did I end up using? The one closest to the correct number will win a Skeleton Key Pendant, similar to the one below. Contest ends Aug 1st. Start guessing away!

Have you checked the Creation is Messy website lately? Looks like there will be 9 new colors, although they are limited runs. I'm most intrigued by the Marigold, Canary and Submarine because I feel like there isn't a good dense yellow in the 104COE world. Can't wait to test these out!

Italian Murrini

I had a chance to trade with someone at the Missouri Bead Retreat for Italian murrini she had got while in Murano, Italy. I don't own a kiln that could slump it into a cabochon, so I took it to Glasshopper Studio and had them fired it for a small fee. I love that the cabochon is transparent so the light and the light can shine through it. Can't wait to make a pendant in silver with one!

Cookies & Cream Cookies

Who doesn't love chocolate or oreos? When you follow a few cooking blogs, it gets dangerous. Really dangerous. These cookies are from the Picky Palate. I changed the recipe a little by using dark chocolate cocoa powder which made it extra rich. Also, these didn't spread out as much as I thought, but they are still as good.

And disappearing fast... I had 4 of them fresh the oven. :)

Missouri State Buttons

If you follow my Twitter, you might know that tornados swept through St. Louis County and hit my town, Maryland Heights particularly hard April 22, 2011. I happened to be at church when the tornado hit, and it tore the steeple off the church. Thank goodness no one inside was hurt.

I was worried going home seeing the destruction around me. Would I even have a home to go back to? What about the neighbors? Thankfully, my area spared. But there were others, people I know, that were not so lucky. Trees fallen on homes or no homes at all. Maryland Heights was hit with an F3 tornado. Bridgeton was hit with an F4 tornado. There was destruction everywhere and many need help.

So what can I do? I decided to make these... Missouri State pin-back buttons. The 2-1/4 inch buttons are $2 each and 1 inch buttons are $1 each. 100% of the Missouri State buttons sales will go to those effected by the storms.

I'll have these available at all my shows and possibly some shops. So far I've raised $110 at Indie Craft Revolution last weekend, and will have these at Tower Grove Farmer's Market this weekend, May 7th.

This weekend I'll be HERE. I've been working 24/7 to finish up new pieces of jewelry including some new style earrings (I'll share soon) and of course glassy goodness. I'm just a tad excited for all the food trucks that will be present, including Pi. Just a bit of a foodie. :)

Also, if some of you follow me on twitter a tornado tore through my town and effected a lot of people in the St. Louis area. I'll be selling supersize pin buttons with 100% of sales going to tornado victims. This has hit very close to me. I was in church when the tornado hit and tore the steeple right off while 350-400 where inside. I'm fortunate that my house remained intact, but others returned home to find theirs utterly destroyed.

Rey Swimwear ~ Vintage Inspiration

I am totally crushing on these vintage inspired swimsuits from Rey Swimwear. Jessica Rey based her designs on the fashion style of Audrey Hepburn, who as you know ladies transcended all fashion standards. Even the swimsuit lines are named after Hepburn characters. My favorite has to be Ann is Seaspray. The turquoise color, teeny polka dots and the pop of red makes me giddy. Turquoise and red is one of my favorite color combos. Watermelon Radishes

So I was reading through the Oh Joy! blog when the above picture caught my eye. Specifically, the veggie in the bottom right corner. What is that?? It's such lovely shade of pink that radiates out to white then lime green.

Turns out it's a watermelon radish. I'm wondering how these taste and if I can even find these in the store...

She shares the space with Laurie of Bliss Eleven Studios a professional art photography studio specializing in HS seniors, kids and families. The Camera Purse

I can't wait for this to arrive! I love my DSLR camera, but hate lugging around a separate camera bag and purse around. This way, with it's padded sides and extra room, I can carry around my camera, extra lens and my wallet. And I love the vintage feel of the outside and graphic houndstooth pattern. These can be purchased at JoTotes and come in many different colors.

My Other Love ~ Photography

I finally got around to editing some photos I took back in mid-February when we finally had a big thaw. And when I say big thaw, I mean 60 degree weather... very unusual for St. Louis. So I grabbed my digital camera and headed to Faust Park and of course, there was a lot of people there enjoying the day. Faust Park is also home to the Butterfly House, a place I love to visit because you can interact with hundreds of butterflies in enclosed area.

New Boutique!

Coming in April, I'll be in a brand new boutique I Am What I Am in Main Street St. Charles. My good friend Jessi runs the boutique and shares the space with Laurie of Bliss Eleven. The shop is in progress, I'm excited to see the changes at the location! I adore the colors... the fresh bright pink and apple green and the space just seems so light and airy. And it's just two doors down from Picasso's Coffee House which could be a little dangerous. :) I'll be working at I Am What I Am every Tuesday from 11am - 5pm in April, so come by and visit!

Derby Day

I ooh and aah over vintage items on a daily basis, especially over dresses. This particular one caught my eye with it's stunning detail. The burnt orange polka dot pattern, the sweet ribbon bow and tiny row of buttons. From Dear Golden Vintage.

New Creation is Messy Glass ~ Adobe (Limited)

It makes me sad that this color, Adobe, is a limited run. Cnce this color is gone, it's gone. Soon to be a distant memory. It will go down in glass lore, like Streaky Pink or River Rock. Just maybe. Who knows right?

In any case, out of the all the new colors that Creation is Messy (CiM) is releasing in March, this has to be my favorite. CiM might classify this as a neutral, but I call it a stunning earthy coral. An opaque coral that is not at all juicy bright orange like typical Moretti corals, but warm inviting light coral color that pretty much goes with anything.

As usual, I tried it out with the silver foil, silver wire and frit. I adore it. I definitely need more of it. The foil becomes becomes metallic after coming out of the kiln. The glass rods themselves are smooth and easy to melt.

CiM, I hope in some way this can be permanent color. I would LOVE this to become a permanent color. Like Dusk. I wish that lovely transparent grey was a stock color as well. One can dream. :)

New Creation is Messy Glass ~ Appletini & Rainforest

Hmm... Appletini... Mojito... Bluetini... I'm sensing a drinking theme here. :) Appletini is a bright, fresh green that leans closer to yellow... sort of like a Granny Smith apple. It's great for Spring, and the silver foil muddles on the surface... hiding the true color of the glass underneath. The Silver wire left light trails in the glass when melted, which is a nice effect. I really liked it with frit and it melts very smoothly. Easy to manipulate as well!

Rainforest... there really isn't a dark green shade like this in the 104COE world. For some reason, the color came out a lot darker then what is depicted on the CiM website. Which is strange, because in rod form, it's close to the picture. Anyways, Rainforest reacts in a similar fashion to Atlantis, when you let the bead cool then put it in the kiln... it becomes darker. Hit your bead with the flame and put it in the kiln quickly, it turns several shades lighter. The silver foil does not become muddled (that tiny spot on the plain cabochon, I burned the glass). A very gorgeous rich dark green that is a nice addition to the CiM palette.

Stay tuned... I'll be reviewing another CiM Adobe! It's a limited run which is a shame, it might just be my favorite color of all.

New Creation is Messy Glass ~ Azure & Atlantis

Creation is Messy (CiM) is coming out with four new colors in March! First up for review... the blues. Azure is a super intense transparent aqua that is a very rich, saturated hue. In rod form, it's very close to CiM Pulsar, so I recommend labeling which is which if you have both colors. Holding it up to the light, I could not tell the Azure and Pulsar apart.

However, once melted it was easy to tell which was Azure. I've been on a cabochon making craze, and found it easy to melt. Azure also doesn't react to silver foil or wire. Score!

Atlantis is appropiately named. The teal color is remaniscent of the clear cerulean waters that is found off the coast of Key West.

As is with most CiM opals, Atlantis is a bit stiff. The color is very true in rod form when you let the bead cool before putting in the kiln. However, if you hit certain spots in the flame, then quickly put it in the kiln, the color turns lighter. You can see the color change along the bottom portion of the right cabochon. The silver foil turned a bit yellow but the silver wire didn't react. A one-time thing? Not sure.

Roots is a lovely antique, vintage and salvage shop in Maplewood, a growing district of fabulous restaurants and one-of-a-kind boutiques. I love to stop by once or month or so to see new finds and how the display everyday items. How fun is using an old paint roller to hold an important photo? I especially loved the old mailbox sorter pictured above... I would fill every nook and cranny with vintage cameras. They are open every Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 4pm.

I fell in love with this picture from Style Me Pretty, a inspirational wedding blog. The colors, the crisp designs and the vintage-like feel. I'm wondering if they are all the same flavors? The bottles behind the 1st row look all different. Part of me wants to hunt these different drinks down and line them up in my kitchen window!

Waving Grain Pumps ~ 365 Project

I've been having a blast, and it is such a challenge to come up with an inventive photo for the 365 Project. I know I won't always be successful, but that's part of the fun. I did give myself some limitations, which does make it harder.

Rule #1 ~ All photos are to be taken with my phone. Rule #2 ~ I will take all photos with the Retro Camera app, and with the The Barbel Camera.

I'm surprised... I actually like the picture quality better with the Retro Camera then without. I wore these heels to church the other day along with some wonderfully patterned tights. I adore the play of textures, especially against the concrete.

Back in 2005, I took a 2 week Mediterranean cruise around Europe. It was an amazing trip, and one I wouldn't mind taking again. The sights, the sounds, the adventures... it was amazing. I also stayed an extra 3 days in Rome, and I can remember the first time I tried gelato. I still dream of that first bite and have yet to find one stateside to match it.

Anyways, fast forward to present day. I did some serious grocery shopping last week and this caught my attention. The packaging is eye-catching, yet simple. And it's coconut! One of my favorite flavors! This is the first pic I submitted to the 365 Project, a website that challenges people to take a picture everyday.

DIY Pom-Pom Wreath

I knew I wanted to make my own pom-pom wreath when I saw a similar look HERE. I initially had a blue/green/grey theme going, but it felt like spring instead of Christmas and cold weather. I took out the green and added a red + pink which turned out to be fantastic. The ornaments were bargain packs I picked up last year at 75% off and worked perfectly with the scheme. I'm very pleased with the results!

143 Dresses

Sometimes I have trouble from choosing between two colors of dresses, but can you imagine choosing from 143? They are sheer and are meant to be layered. An endless array of color palettes. Converting a shadow box..

Into a necklace display. I removed the middle sections by using a hammer, then used Super77 spray glue to attach the cork and a vintage doily. The hooks were leftovers from a previous project. I really like how it turn out!

Paper Garland

I recently had to repair my craft apron because I ripped the seam and while I had sewing machine out, I decided to try to make some garland. I consider this a major accomplishment because A) I'm a total sewing newbie and B) I can't sew a straight line to save my life. Once I got going, it was pretty easy to do! Not quite sure what I'll do with this, but I'll figure something out. :)

I love miniature art, especially the pieces done by this artist Dalton Ghetti. Can you imagine sculpting to scale objects on the tip of a pencil? And without a magnifying glass? My favorite is his alphabet series, which took him two years to carve and the skeleton key. Amazing.

...can be fussy. I thought it would be fun to make some enameled bead caps and they turned out great! However, the stress of silver coring caused the enamel to crack off one end.. I was tapping the edge down and wondered where did that yellow chip come from... oh.

I'll have to experiment more, because I think it'll add a different element to my focals.

Holding Hands Bracelet

I'm happy to share with you all a special collaboration I've been working on the past month with My Mommy Manual, a website that helps busy moms with practical and inspired tips. On August 25th they will be holding a special virtual baby shower for an expected mom, Virginia Kerr, the anchor on Channel 4’s early news show, Awake.

Interchangeable glass charms have become very popular, and I created a glass charm exclusively for them! Making base bead... easy. Doing the stringer control to "write" the holding hands symbol... not so easy. I haven't practiced stringer control for over a year and it took me 6-7 tries until I proved victorious! I'm so happy and excited how they turned out, and I hope you will too. I've done very few pandora-style/big-hole charms for bracelets, and I'll have more to add in my Etsy shop.

This weekend I discovered a "new" brand. I'm using air quotes because I had no idea that one of my favorite designers, Orla Kiely had a clothing line! (I must have been living under a rock.)

TheCash & Carry Boutique Wharehouse Sale was this past weekend, and the first boutique I rummaged through had this seersucker print dress.

With a very recognizable stem pattern.

The only one left.

In my size.

It might have been $75 (3/4 of my budget) but it's worth every penny. I would just throw on some sandals with this dress and be done. Or for the cooler months, tights with snazzy boots and a cardigan.

Strangely though, I can't find the Olive and Orange line looking around the internet. I thought they would have at least a website, but it took me forever to find a picture of the above dress online. Picture is courtesy of I Love Orla.

Prosciutto Mozzarella Panini with Fresh Figs

Thought I would share a quick and easy recipe with y'all today! I love this time of year because fresh figs are available at grocery stores. You have to, in your lifetime, try a fresh fig. Not the preserve kind or the fig newton kind, but a sweet fresh fig. You won't regret it, I promise.

So, I have two containers of fresh figs. Instead of munching of them straight from the box, I wanted to make something... sweet & salty sounded just about right. I thought of this sandwich on a whim and it's so simple to make!

Prosciutto Mozzarella Panini with Fresh Figs
2 slices of a good thick bread
prosciutto
fresh mozzarella
fresh figs

On one side, butter a slice of bread and place on the grill. In my case, it's a George Foreman Grill. Don't laugh... it works! Cut the mozzarella into thin slices. I like getting the huge mozzarella ball, get the kind that's not swimming in liquid. It'll make your sandwich soggy. Soggy = sad sandwich.

Next, layer on prosciutto, two pieces of it, then an even layer of fresh figs, also sliced. Close your "panini" maker and wait until the bread is a nice golden brown and the mozzarella is melted. Cut and enjoy!

I'm excited to find out I've been accept to Strange Folk, a large outdoor indie art and craft show in O'Fallon, IL. It will be September 25 & 26, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. both days. It's fabulous show... I went last year and spent about 4 hours shopping (half that time was chatting with fellow crafters, I know so many of them!). Time to get cracking and build up stock. Can you believe I woke up this morning with new booth design layout dancing in my head? Crazy! In a good way of course. :)

Back on Memorial Day, I visited to the Gypsy Caravan, a huge 300+ flea & antique market held on the campus of University of Missouri St. Louis. I've finally gotten around to taking pictures of my finds, and I'm sharing them with you over the course of July. First up in this lovely black mourning cameo. I've been looking for one that I liked for years and I'm leaving the picture of the sailor in the locket. It doesn't seem right to remove it, knowing there was someone out there, mourning the loss of a lost love.

Do you ever look at something and do a double take? When I first so these on the Oh Joy's blog, I thought it was murrini. You know... little glass murrini that people use making flamework beads or in glassblowing. But they are little bit of candy made by Papabubble.

Although. I think these could be some really fantastic shapes for murrini. I may have to try it out...
